Song of the Moment #59: Jimmy Eat World – 23
Back when Futures came out, I was in first year university with so many hopes and dreams and happy to get away from it all - not knowing the path I was on only led to darkness, eventual remorse, and self-destruction. Only recently in the past year and a half has change occurred and I continue to undergo spiritual transformation. The words "starting over" resounded everywhere, from movies, TV shows, friends, family, billboard signs, and even strangers and passersby. Even today's sermon mentioned starting over.
I'm sure starting over was a theme for a lot of people who had lost their jobs in this economy. And I thank Him for the strength, courage, and support for me to start over in the face of utter failure and defeat. I was humbled to the core of my character, or else I would have grown to be a terrible person, unfit for a family.
I would never have thought I'd end up here when I was 17. Going forward through 23, everything isn't as blurry anymore.
"You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready"
When I think of imagery for this song, I imagine myself traveling alone on a wide open road in the desert, looking out the window. Or walking along some highway near sunset as cars pass by. Or along The Road in post-apocalyptic America (too much Fallout 3, haha). Psychoanalyze that, ha!
Lyrics:
I felt for sure last night
That once we said goodbye
No one else will know these lonely dreams
No one else will know that part of me
I'm still driving away
And I'm sorry every day
I won't always love these selfish things
I won't always live...
Not stopping...
It was my turn to decide
I knew this was our time
No one else will have me like you do
No one else will have me, only you
You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Don't give away the end
The one thing that stays mine
Amazing still it seems
I'll be 23
I won't always love what I'll never have
I won't always live in my regrets
You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Don't give away the end
The one thing that stays mine
You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Don't give away the end
The one thing that stays mine...
Song of the Moment #58: K’naan – Wavin’ Flag
Now the anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, this song fits with much of what is going on all over the world. This song was also performed during the "Canada for Haiti" relief telethon.
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But Violent prone, poor people zone
But it’s my home, all I have known
Where I got grown, streets we would roam
But out of the darkness, I came the farthest
Among the hardest survival
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak
Except no defeat, surrender retreat
So we struggling, fighting to eat and
We wondering when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that fateful day
It’s not far away, so for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
So many wars, settling scores
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I heard them say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that’s what they say,
But look how they treat us, make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us
Try to control us, they couldn’t hold us
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers
But we struggling, fighting to eat
And we wondering, when we’ll be free
So we patiently wait, for that faithful day
It’s not far away, but for now we say
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And everybody will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And you and I will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And we all will be singing it
(Ohhh Ohh Ohh Ohh)
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older, when I get older
I will be stronger, just like a Waving Flag
Just like a Waving Flag, just like a Waving flag
Flag, flag, Just like a Waving Flag.
Song of the Moment #57: Iyaz – Replay
This song is stuck in my head now thanks to being replayed on every single radio station preset in my car. (See what I did there? Hur hur hurrrrrr.... -_-)
I have worked hard to make changes for myself and to escape the dark times of my past - which may have been a result of a chemical imbalance in my brain, but I will not associate myself to something that still has social stigma attached to it.
This year has been a year of great change throughout the world and within myself. I have never felt more "adventurous" and being comfortable awkward in certain situations only to laugh it off.
Music has kept me sane - not a day goes by without my iPod. This song, to me, relates to someone who, not through regular contact but just by being (funny how that works), motivates me and inspires me to:
- Get good grades so I can go somewhere I want to be, be able to provide, and not be another deadbeat father.
- Learn guitar and piano to be able to impress her and to enrich the lives of others and hopefully of my children and grandchildren.
- Live a healthier lifestyle so I can live long to see my grandchildren - and possibly even great grandchildren.
Yes, I am well aware that cooking is a huge plus. That can be #4 but don't expect any progress on that anytime soon, haha.
Pro tip in life: You do everything better when it is for someone you care deeply about. Heck, you do your best.
Lyrics:
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (2x)
Remember the first time we met
You was at the mall wit yo friend
I was scared to approach ya
But then you came closer
Hopin' you would give me a chance
Who would have ever knew
That we would ever be more than friends
We're real worldwide, breakin all the rules
She like a song played again and again
That girl, like somethin off a poster
That girl, is a dime they say
That girl, is a gun to my holster
She's runnin through my mind all day, ay
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (2x)
See you been all around the globe
Not once did you leave my mind
We talk on the phone, from night til the morn
Girl you really change my life
Doin things I never do
I'm in the kitchin cookin things she likes
We're real worldwide, breakin all the rules
Someday I wanna make you my wife
That girl, like somethin off a poster
That girl, is a dime they say
That girl, is the gun to my holster
She's runnin through my mind all day, ay
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my ipon stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (2x)
I can be your melody
A girl that could write you a symphony
The one that could fill your fantasies
So come baby girl let's sing with me
Ay, I can be your melody
A girl that could write you a symphony
The one that could fill your fantasies
So come baby girl let's sing with me
Ay, na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Shawty got me singin
Na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na
Now she got me singin
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (2x)
Song of the Moment #56: Owl City – The Saltwater Room
I realize that change takes a very long time. One year isn't enough and rushing into things can prove to be very costly and I absolutely cannot afford the sacrifice. I cannot change my introversion over night but at least now, I can laugh at the awkwardness and strange situations I put myself through amongst strangers (for the most part). Haha.
99% of the time you'll see me with earphones on. It's cause I like to escape into my own world of music. Noise gives me a headache. Lack of music makes my walk and whatever I'm doing boring. This is why certain individuals are able to ninja behind me, sneak right up to my ear, say my name in some creepy way, and I won't hear it. Now now, I keep the volume low when there is traffic around and I definitely shut it off when I'm in a shady part of town.
Anyway, I'm currently escaping in the atmosphere set up by Owl City. Synthpop. I like.
And yes, "time together isn't ever quite enough."
This song makes me feel free, no obligations or responsibilities. Just lying in the summer sun, with that special someone.
Well, back to the real world. Sigh.
Lyrics:
I opened my eyes last night and saw you in the low light Walking down by the bay on the shore Staring up at the stars that aren't there anymore I was feeling the night grow old (grow old) and you were looking so cold So like an introvert, I drew my over shirt Around my arms and began to shiver violently Before you happened to look and see (and see) the tunnels all around me Running into the dark underground All the subways around create a great sound To my motion fatigue, farewell With your ear to a seashell You can hear the waves in underwater caves As if you actually were inside a saltwater room Time together isn't ever quite enough When you and I are alone, I've never felt so at home What will it take to make or break this hint of love? Only time, only time Can you believe that the crew has gone? And they wouldn't let me sign on All my islands have sunk in the deep, And I can hardly relax or even oversleep When I feel warm with your hand in mine When we walk along the shoreline I guess we'll never know why sparrows love the snow We'll turn out all of the lights and set this ballroom aglow So tell me darlin', do you wish we'd fall in love? Yeah, all the time All the time Time together isn't ever quite enough When you and I are alone, I've never felt so at home What will it take to make or break this hint of love? Only time, only time When we're apart what ever are you thinking of? If this is what I call home, why does it feel so alone? So tell me darling, do you wish we'd fall in love? All the time, all the time Time together isn't ever quite enough When we're apart what ever are you thinking of? What will it take to make or break this hint of love? So tell me darling, do you wish we'd fall in love? All the time Oh, all the time
Song of the… Moment? #55: FLOW – Sign
With a drastic change to the amount of free time I have, I can't really maintain a weekly update to the site and I have more of a desire focus my energies out in the real world.
But, I'll update the song with the full version of the new Naruto Shippuden opening, Flow - Sign. Oh man, I can predict the Google pounding my site is going to get from people looking for this song by putting this up. Sigh. Oh well!
I'd put lyrics but I can't type Japanese. So just listen in the above music player.
No MP3 link cause I'd get in legal trouble but look on Youtube for recent videos. That's how I found it. This song is supposed to come out on January 13th, 2010 so I don't know how this song leaked out early.
Song of the Week #54: Matthew Good – Last Parade
From Matthew Good's latest album Vancouver, "Last Parade".
Lyrics:
It feels like time to let it go
It feels like time to break or show
It feels like time to cut your breaks
Shut your mouth, do something, anything
It feels like time to fuck or leave
It feels like I choke you just to breathe
It feels like time ain't time at all
Just black out, wake up foreign, wander home
Take me out, lay me down
Let the dirt fall all around me
Baby, ain't it good to be back home?
They're burning futures in the mountains
All lit up, yeah, you can count yours
Baby, ain't it good to be back home?
It feels like just another day
Like one more dead town's last parade
We're taking pictures of a tidal wave
On the shore grinning a hundred feet away
It feels like time ain't time at all
Just black out, wake up foreign, wander home
Song of the Week #53: Radiohead – These Are My Twisted Words
This is Radiohead's new song that is currently being provided FREE on their website.
Lyrics:
These are my twisted words
When I feel you still walking
I know I should not look down
But I’m so sick of just talking
When are you coming back?
I just can’t handle it
When are you coming back?
I just can’t handle it
When are you coming back?
I just can’t stand it
I just can’t handle it
Song of the Week #52: Miho Fukuhara – Let it Out
SOTW #52 eh? Well, it's already been 2-3 weeks over the one-year-old mark. I skipped some weeks I guess during my exam periods. Anyway...
To give this song a listen, open the music player in the above Flash animation.
This is the second song for the ending credits of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (which is my new favourite anime, by the way). This single is to be released on September 9th, 2009 but the promotional video (PV) is being aired right now. The song in the music player is the PV-rip version from Youtube.
I can't post the lyrics to it because I can't type Japanese on here. And I think it's pointless to post the Romanji anyway. So here is a Youtube link to the PV:
Song of the Week #51: Phoenix – 1901
This song was e-mailed to me by a close friend. After giving it a couple of listens, it is catchy and it grows on you. At least, it did for me. Haha.
Phoenix is a French alternative rock band and "1901" is their first single from their 2009 album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
Lyrics:
Counting all different ideas drifting away
Past and present they don't matter
Now the future's sorted out
Watch her moving in elliptical patterns
Think it's not what you say
What you say is way too complicated
For a minute thought I couldn't tell how to fall out
It's twenty seconds till the last call
You're going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it's easy
Like we did it over summer long
And I'll be anything you ask and more
You're going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It's not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn't let you think so
Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it
Girlfriend, oh your girlfriend is drifting away
Past and present 1855 -1901 †
Watch them built up a meteor tower
Think it's not gonna stay anyway
Think it's overrated
For a minute thought I couldn't tell how to fall out
It's twenty seconds till the last call
You're going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it's easy
Like we did it over summer long
And I'll be anything you ask and more
You're going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It's not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn't let you think so
Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it
Song of the Week #50: Our Lady Peace – Never Get Over You
From their latest album released on July 21st, 2009 is Our Lady Peace - Never Get Over You. The album title Burn Burn is part of the lyrics for this song.
As usual, to give it a listen, open the music player with the yellow button in the above Flash slideshow.
Lyrics:
She said it's quiet, in the shadow of the sun.
She looks tired, the life that's come undone.
She turns, turns, turns, turns.
She likes hockey, and summers by the lake.
We're not talkin' because of my mistakes.
I burn, burn, burn, burn.
If you walk out that door, I just don't know what i'd do.
I'll never get over you.
If my heart hits this floor, I just don't know what I'll do.
I'll never get over you.
In this silence, It's never been so loud.
I try and fight it, but the words just don't come out.
I burn, burn, burn, burn.
If you walk out that door, I just don't know what I'd do.
[ Our Lady Peace Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
I'll never get over you.
Ir my heart hits this floor, I just don't know what I'll do.
I'll never get over you.
There's no hiding, from your silence.
There's no hiding.
If you walk out that door, I Just don't know what I'd do.
I'll never get over you.
If my heart hits this floor, I just don't know what I'll do.
I'll never get over you.
Don't you go.
Don't you go.
Don't you go.
Don't you go.
